My favorite touristy spots in Madrid

Writer's picture: ndallalypopndallalypop

There is plenty of well known touristy spots to see in Madrid but it's hard to see all of it depending how much time you have! This post will just cover some sights, if you want to know more about #museums, #nightlift, or #food, then check my other posts! So what are my top picks? Keep reading to find out :)

El Palacio Real de Madrid

This is the largest functioning palace in Europe! So you have to pay to enter but its discounted for students so I would definitely recommend using that discount if you're a student! If you just drop by the line is usually really long so book ahead of time. When you pay you get entry to the courtyard which is huge and has a nice view on the sides, and the interior. There are some really beautiful rooms inside, my favorite was completely made in porcelain! The gardens are free so even if you don't want to pay go wander around the gardens! You will get the view of the palace you see in my photo.

Retiro Park

I absolutely love Retiro! This is a beautiful park to have a picnic, drink some wine and hang out with your friends and family on a nice day. There is an area where you can rent a boat (see the water behind me in the picture) and then of course you can walk to Palacio de Cristal which is still within the park and another really cool spot! There are also usually various artists and food vendors around the park.

Puerta de Alcalá

This is just right outside of the main entrance to Retiro so it will be easy to knock out both of these tourist spots in one trip! Every European city seems to have their own version of an arch/gate and this is Madrid's! See the photo below.

Plaza de Cibeles

Now I am putting this on my list because not only is it beautiful architecture but you can also get an amazing view of it and the rest of the city from the rooftop bar on top of Círculo de Bellas Artes (see photo). I highly recommend! Also this is right next to Gran Via, the main shopping street, so you can head here and enjoy a drink and a view after doing a busy couple hours of shopping! See the middle photo below for the view of Plaza de Cibeles from the rooftop.

Puerta de Atocha

So this is the largest railway station in Madrid but don't be fooled it's not just a regular railway station! I think this place is really underrated because I absolutely love the inside! As you can see in my photo, the station has its own tropical garden! Its so cool and its surrounded by places to get food so you can stop for a treat and eat by the gardens. The station is also conveniently located right by the Golden Triangle of Art (the three art #museums of the Prado, Reina Sofia and the Thyssen) so you can stop by here before or after you've gone to any of these museums! I honestly felt this was cooler than the botanical gardens next to the Prado even though its way smaller. Also this is free! The botanical gardens aren't.

Hope my thoughts were helpful! Happy touristing :)
