Berlin is full of beautiful architecture, which is partially why it became one of my favorite weekend trips. I absolutely loved how many insaneeeeee, beautiful buildings I saw. When I was starting this post I went through all my photos from this trip and it made me want to go back so bad!
Berliner Dom
Aka the Berlin Cathedral, this is an obvious tourist must do! It is breathtaking! As you can see in the photo there is a really nice grassy area in front of it to chill and maybe have a drink and enjoy the view. You'll realize a v common theme of Berlin is nice grassy areas with people hanging out and drinking on them. Its like finding mini Dolores Parks everywhere, aka heaven.
Gendarmenmarkt
This is a large square that includes the Konzerthaus (the concert hall) and then a church on either side of it (one pictured), a French one (Französischer Dom) and a German one (Deutscher Dom). There is also a statue in the middle of the square in front of the Konzerthaus (see photo) of the German poet Friedrich Schiller. This whole square is a great photo op! Just hang out on the stairs of the Konzerthaus for a bit and take in all the sights!
Reichstag
This is the Parliament building and once again surpriseeeee there’s a nice grassy area in front that you can chill on. See a theme here? If you want to tour the inside it’s free but you have to book in advance because it's super popular and you won't be guaranteed to get in if you just show up. I didn't book in advance so I did not end up getting to see the inside. Next time!
Bebelplatz
Another big and beautiful public square surrounded by several buildings, one of which is Humboldt University
which I thought was the most impressive! It's pretty massive. Check the photo! Also surrounding it is St. Hedwig's Cathedral, and the Berlin State Opera. All good places to check out.
Brandenburg Gate
This is another obvious tourist photo op like the Berliner Dom. Every European city seems to have their own gate (I said this for Madrid's Puerta de Alcalá as well) and this is Berlin's! In addition right next to it is Tiergarten, a huge, pretty garden worth taking a stroll in so you can walk right on through the gate and head on over to the garden. You can see the greenery of it through the gate in the photo! There were also some people selling pretzels around here if you want one :)
